In supporting global intellectual property efforts at a tier one automotive supplier located in Michigan, Alex Salmu also advises clients in all areas of intellectual property. Alex also assists in patentability assessments, geographic extension advice, and portfolio pruning decisions. Prior to his experience there, Alex performed mechanical and medical device technology searches and wrote patentability opinions for the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO) as the receiving office for Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) international applications. The International Search Authority was a contractor to the USPTO. His years of experience as a mechanical engineer and as an attorney since 2011 provide clients with a unique blend of pragmatic, yet creative solutions.

Alex has worked with engineers, inventors, managers, directors, and other executives to establish viable invention disclosures and regularly counsels in strategic portfolio development. He has experience reviewing and drafting joint venture, joint ownership, technology transfer, patent licensing, assignment, trademark, non-disclosure, distribution, and other intellectual property agreements.
